Shibori Fun:
Shibori with all natural dyes. Create a wearable Work of Art!
This special class is perfect for both beginners and returning students! We’ll dive into the galaxy of Shibori, a Japanese tie-dye technique that transforms fabric through folding, twisting, binding, and shaping before dipping it in dyes to create incredible patterns .
Instead of traditional indigo, we’ll experiment with a beautiful range of natural dyes—chestnut, iron, pomegranate, & cochineal—on cotton, silk, & wool. You’ll have plenty of materials to test different techniques before creating your own finished silk scarf & cotton bandana.
All materials are provided so you can leave with a unique, ready-to-wear piece of fiber art. Additional blank textiles will be available for purchase if you’d like to keep experimenting!
Wool Painted Landscapes:
Explore the creative galaxy of wool painting.
We will gather around a communal table with piles of soft colorful wool roving, pre-made rustic wood frames, and watercolors as templates. No art experience required – I will guide you through the process of painting with fibers and a needle.
All materials provided so you can go home with a ‘ready to hang’ piece of fiber art!
Materials: wool roving, upcycled clothing canvas, salvaged wool frame, and watercolor templates.
You don’t need any fiber art experience to be successful. Every time I teach this class I am amazed at the beauty my students create, the joy they find in the process, and the harmony we reach as a group.
The Living Sculpture:
Floral Design meets Still Life! The Living Sculpture is a hands-on exploration of composition with nature. We’ll begin by gathering beautiful botanicals from the beauty that surrounds the barn at Ten Mile Farm and selecting from my collection of found objects—vessels, shells, bones, textiles, and more. Then, we’ll transform these materials into sculptural compositions that celebrate ephemeral plants and the unseen beauty in everyday objects.
We’ll explore color, texture, scale, balance, and composition, embracing the wabi-sabi philosophy of imperfection & impermanence.
No experience necessary—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to explore. All materials will be provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own found objects to incorporate into your piece.
Plant Pigment Lab:
The magic meeting of botanicals & textiles. Enter the laboratory to test the boundaries of fibers & pigment. We will explore how botanicals interact with textiles using natural dyes, eco-printing, & shibori techniques. Harnessing the vibrant hues of nature’s bounty, you’ll learn to create botanical prints & patterns on silk, cotton, and paper using flowers, leaves, & extracts.
Unlock the secrets of this eco-conscious art form and create some beautiful pieces to hang as art or wear. Your attendance fee will cover a variety of materials to explore, and you’re welcome to bring an item to experiment with. No prior art experience is needed.
Materials: local botanicals, silk & cotton ready to wear items, natural dyes, watercolor paper, & all the tools to make the magic.
Overlooked Chimes:
Join me for a hands-on workshop where we transform found and forgotten objects into hanging chimes and mobiles. Using an array of botanical and household materials – buttons, bells, twigs, eco-printed ribbon, wire, seashells, stones, and more – you’ll craft a piece that tells your story.
I will provide a variety of flotsam to work with, but I also encourage you to bring an item of your own to include in your design. Something unique, odd, fun, or that holds a memory, a piece you’ve saved but aren’t sure what to do with.
This workshop is as much about balance as it is about creation. Come ready to explore, reflect, and give new life to the overlooked.
Mindful Mending:
Breathe new life into your old clothing through creative mending and alteration techniques. In this workshop, you’ll explore natural dyes, hand-sewing methods, eco-printing tools, and additional materials to experiment with.
Bring an item (or two) you’d like to transform, and we will teach you to alter, mend, or add some decorative love to your clothing.
This workshop not only fosters creativity but also encourages a mindful approach to fashion by reducing waste and embracing sustainability. Join us as we inspire a shift towards thoughtful fashion choices and environmental stewardship, nurturing a community committed to sustainable style.
